On August 30, 2019, Halifax County Solar LLC (Halifax County Solar), filed an application to build an 80-MW solar photovoltaic electric generating facility in Halifax County. Halifax County Solar plans to begin construction of the facility in late 2021, with the expected commercial operation date being as early as the fourth quarter of 2022. The facility would have an expected life of 20 or more years.

The location of the proposed facility is on seven contiguous parcels of land about 5 miles north of Enfield on the east side of Beaverdam Road, between the intersections of Beaverdam Road and Neville Farm Road to the south and Richneck Road to the north. The facility will interconnect with the electric transmission system owned by Dominion North Carolina Power.

The Commission has scheduled the hearing on November 7, 2019, to give public witnesses an opportunity to make brief statements about this proposed project. The Commission may cancel this hearing if no substantial written complaints regarding the proposed facility are received by the Commission’s Chief Clerk on or before November 5, 2019.

The Public Staff – NCUC represents the using and consuming public in matters before the Commission, and will be reviewing this matter and possibly providing testimony.
