On March 22, 2021, Clarke Utilities, Inc. (Clarke) filed an request with the Commission to increase its rates for water and sewer service in all of its service areas in Wake and Franklin Counties. Clarke serves about 558 water customers and 312 sewer customers.

The Commission has scheduled two hearings to consider this matter. The first hearing, at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, June 17, 2021, is to take the testimony of Clarke’s customers. This hearing will be held remotely via Webex, and members of the public will participate by telephone. People who want to testify must register in advance, no later than 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, by contacting the Public Staff of the NC Utilities Commission. When registering to testify, please provide your name, the docket number (W-1205 Sub 14), the subdivision where you receive service, the phone number from which you will be calling when you give your testimony, and the topic of your testimony. Please read this important information about providing testimony remotely.

Members of the public can also provide written statements via email, or by sending a letter to the address below. In either case, be sure to state the docket number as the subject of your communications. After two or three business days written statements become part of the official record and can be viewed from this website under the docket number.

Members of the public can observe this hearing via a YouTube link that will be available on the homepage of this website the day of the hearing.

The second hearing in this matter will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2021, beginning at 2:00 p.m. This hearing is to take the testimony of expert witnesses, including people from Clarke and the Public Staff. The Commission will issue a subsequent order as to whether this hearing will also be held remotely via Webex, or whether it will be held in the Commission’s hearing room in downtown Raleigh.
